Keep Dallas Families and Their Dogs Together

Preventing pet surrender caused by short-term financial hardship.

The Problem

In Dallas, many families surrender pets not because they want to, but because of a temporary crisis, an unexpected veterinary bill, a short-term housing issue, or food insecurity. Once a dog enters the shelter system, the family bond is often permanently broken.

Our Approach

Second Leash Foundation intervenes before surrender happens. We provide targeted, short-term assistance that stabilizes families during brief periods of hardship, keeping dogs out of shelters and families intact.

What This Fund Supports (Dallas-Only)

  • Emergency veterinary care assistance

  • Short-term pet food support

  • Limited temporary boarding during family crises

This pilot is intentionally local to ensure fast response, strong partnerships, and measurable outcomes.

Funding Goal

We are raising $10,000 to deploy immediate assistance to Dallas families at risk of surrendering their pets.

Suggested Fund Levels

  • $2,500 – supports multiple families with emergency assistance

  • $5,000 – underwrites a significant portion of monthly interventions

  • $10,000 – anchors the Dallas Family Pet Stability Fund
