How We Help

Every dog on our waitlist has a name. Every one of them has a person who loves them, someone who did not choose hardship, who did not stop caring, who simply ran out of options.

Second Leash Foundation steps in before a dog ever reaches a shelter door. We pay veterinarians directly for emergency care. We keep dogs fed when a family's food assistance runs out. We provide safe temporary boarding when housing falls through. And through our Senior Guardian Program, we make sure an elderly owner's dog, often their only daily companion, never gets left behind.

For dogs who have already entered the shelter system, we fund adoption assistance so they find their way home to someone who will love them for life.

Every program we run has one goal: no dog loses their home because life fell apart.

We serve all U.S. states for vet, food, adoption, and senior assistance. Short-term boarding is available in DFW only on a case-by-case basis. Typical review: 24–72 hours (urgent vet cases faster).

We provide emergency support to keep your dog safe, fed, and healthy while you get back on your feet. If any of the following apply to your situation, we want to hear from you:
