Shelter Dog Adoption Assistance

#1 Most Requested Service: Temporary Crisis Boarding

The majority of our boarding requests come from the DFW area, with food assistance, veterinary grants, and adoption assistance requests coming in from across the country. Families are facing eviction, job loss, deportation, and medical crises and their first call is to find a safe place for their dog that isn't a shelter.

Why We Exist

Before Second Leash Foundation was officially established, our founder assisted families out of pocket, helping 3 families keep their dogs during personal crises, covering emergency food, vet bills, and boarding costs herself. Those experiences made one thing undeniable: the gap between a family in crisis and a dog surrendered to a shelter is often just a few hundred dollars and someone willing to help.

That's why Second Leash Foundation exists.

What's Holding Us Back

We have the infrastructure. We have the programs. We have 51 families waiting right now.

What we need is funding.

Every dollar donated to Second Leash Foundation goes directly toward keeping dogs out of shelters and in the homes where they belong. Dallas-area shelters are currently operating at 142% capacity. We are working to make sure fewer dogs add to that number.
