Foster Safety Net™

No adoption ends at a shelter. Ever.

The single biggest reason people hesitate to adopt is fear.

  • What if it does not work out?

  • What if the dog is not the right fit?

  • What if my landlord changes their mind?

Most people do not say this out loud. They just walk past the kennel and keep going. The dog stays.

| Second Leash Foundation's Foster Safety Net™ removes that fear completely.

Any adopter who takes a dog from a Dallas-area shelter gets access to the Foster Safety Net for the first 30 days. If the adoption genuinely does not work, the dog is not the right fit for the household, the landlord pushes back, a life circumstance changes.

Second Leash Foundation funds up to 30 days of boarding at a licensed partner facility while we find a better match.

The dog never goes back to a shelter. It gets a second shot at the right home.

Five simple steps

  1. You adopt a dog from a Dallas-area shelter or rescue.

  2. Within the first 30 days, if the placement is not working, you contact Second Leash Foundation.

  3. We place the dog at one of our partner boarding facilities — the same network we use for the Crisis Boarding Program™.

  4. We work to find a better match while the dog stays safe and cared for.

  5. The dog goes to the right home. Not back to a shelter. Ever.

How It Works

Who Qualifies

Any adopter who takes a dog from a Dallas-area shelter or 501(c)(3) rescue. The adoption does not need to have been funded by Second Leash Foundation to qualify.

You do not need to be low income. You simply need to be someone who tried to give a dog a home and hit an obstacle.

Any adopter who tried

It is a promise.

Send Leash Foundation does not take dogs back. We do not operate a shelter. What we do is guarantee that no dog in our network ever ends up back in the system because an adoption did not work. That is not a policy. It is who we are.
